A step-by-step technical guide to safely transitioning an active phone number from the standard WhatsApp consumer or business mobile app to the Meta Cloud API without losing your contacts.
Before proceeding, export any vital chat transcripts or customer notes from your phone app. Once a phone number transitions to the Meta Cloud API, it can no longer be used inside the regular WhatsApp mobile phone app simultaneously.
Open WhatsApp on your phone → Navigate to Settings → Account → Tap Delete My Account.
Note: Merely uninstalling the application is not sufficient. You must explicitly delete the account registration so Meta releases the phone number for Cloud API activation.
